The advantages of ballasts compared to the "old" magnetic ballasts are great. With the advent of Electronic Ballasts, a technological revolution has taken place in the field of energy efficiency for assimilation lighting. The replacement of magnetic ballasts by electronic ballasts has been a long time coming, but is now available from the specialist trade and the better grow shop.

The ballasts are available in 250 watts, 400 watts, 600 watts and 1000 watts.

A small summary of the advantages compared to a normal ballast.
Super quiet, no hum or other annoying noises.
Small & compact design. A 600 watt ballast weighs less than 4.5 kg.
Produces less heat.
More lumen output. Up to 30% more lumen output than some "old" magnetic ballasts. More light = more yield.
Cut-off circuit – Power is cut off when a short circuit is detected.
Longer life span
